Band camp was quite fun but uber tiring. Well, it's my last band camp and yup it adds to the nice memories. =) Aside from playing our instruments.. we cam whored...

It's gonna be the last time sleeping in the freezing cold dorm with all my friends.. Disturbing everyone with my dolphin's squeaks and strangling jasmine with the ipod wires.. =x

I did cip at the bird park for 5 days and it was seriously a great experience. I had lotsa fun and i really miss the birds and people at the bird park. Jean, dr elly and the other ppl we worked with, the lalala cockatoo, tweety, laura and patrick the 2 eclectus parrots and many more.Day 1:
I reported to my department, the breeding and research centre (brc) while mel and nabi reported to the avian department. I got a tour of brc where i got to see the breeding pairs in the breeding blocks and the baby birds in the nursery. As for my job, i was supposed to look at this screen and observe the birds, record the time they entered and left the nest box, how many entered and left, calculate the intervals and observe the trends. And yar.. i stared at the screen for 8 hours. I almost died. And no i wasn't watching porn! it's to access whether they are good parents.

Day 2:
Basically it was more staring at the screen. I did research on the birds and compiled the information.
Day 3:
I swapped with nabi coz she's terrified of birds and i was dying staring at screens. I sold nectar at lory loft for 1 hour plus before getting sent back to a desk job! I was supposed to do some encoding for some list that all the zoos in the world must submit but they couldn't find the file so i ended up updating the inventory of the bird park. The vet was complaining that the file was important. Inventory was terrible! JBP was soooo many birds i almost died updating. After like 6hrs i was only slightly more than half way done. Anyway lory loft was super fun and the lories are super cute. They'll just hop onto the table or fly onto yr hands or shoulder. The 1st lory that sat on my shoulder was a violet necked lory and it stayed there for a really long time. I just went round doing my stuff and it just sat there. The vet was like "awww! u all have become friends!Anyway, the vet and i observed a *cough* threesome and we both went "eww! gross!" in unison.

Day 4:
Mel and i did photography. Where we helped with selling the tickets, printing the pictures, and helping with the birds. The birds are really amusing and cute. I could just watch them all day. Anyway some tourists are really annoying! Many times i stopped myself from glaring or rolling my eyes at them. And seriously, you can be amazed by the stupid qns ppl ask. We have ppl asking us where a certain place is when the BIG sign is right in their faces.

Day 5:
Jean had off day so i did avian. I cleaned a WHOLE EXHIBIT all by myself. For those who have been to the bird park, it's parrot paradise and it's frigging big. I was supposed to use one of those hoses with the high pressure jet and shoot the bird shit off the cages and the bird shit is really hard to get rid off. I had to clean the signs too. While i was cleaning the aviaries, i saw this BIG FAT gecko and i was really tempted to shoot it down.. eventually i did. So in total i shot down 2 geckos, 2 spiders, 1 snail and 1 weird looking insect. I took the whole morning to clean the exhibit and by the time i was done i was soaking wet and looking really unglam. After that i went back to photog.

my favourite bird in the whole bird park; the lalala cockatoo. He's a salmon crested cockatoo.
I was never exactly in love with birds, but after the birdpark my opinion kinda changed. They are really lovable and sweet, they never fail to put a smile on your face. It's really sweet when u actually see 2 diff birds grooming each other. I learnt lotsa stuff; both learning more facts and learning stuff through the birds.
